Tony Bruno, will lead the Foundation as Chairperson in 2009.  Bruno is a long-time supporter of the Foundation’s mission to support supplemental education opportunities for students throughout Stanislaus County.  Tracey Kerr, President/CEO, MOCSE Credit Union, served as Chairperson for the past year and remains on the Foundation’s Board.  Mary Ann Sanders, retired educator, is serving as Chairperson Elect.  In addition, the Board welcomed several new members: Dale Boyett, President, Boyett Petroleum, David Gianelli, Eric Johnston, VP, The Modesto Bee, Judie Piscitello, Stanislaus Partners in Education, Becky Shokraii, Human Resource Manager for Dot Foods.

Formed in 2002, the foundation supports the efforts of the Youth Entertainment Stage (YES) Company, Outdoor Education, and Student Events (such as academic decathlons and mock trials).  “The mission of the Education Foundation is to support opportunities for students to participate in activities that will enhance their personal growth and success in school,” said Tom Changnon, Stanislaus County Superintendent of Schools.  “I’m encouraged by the strong support we’ve received from community members in establishing the foundation.”  Each year, more than 10,000 students participate in activities sponsored by this foundation, which is supported through donations and volunteer help.  Sustained through donations, last year the Board raised $142,000.  At a recent board meeting $120,000 in funds were allocated to:

  • Support YES Company's new program, "YES Kidettes," for students in grades 1-4

  • Provide tuition grants for low-income students participating in YES Kids

  • Build a sheltered classroom at Foothill Horizons Outdoor Education School

  • Install solar tubes at Foothill Horizons
